About Lynn J Harris & Irene Education

My Story

My work began long before Irene Education was founded.

Like many people affected by abuse and trauma, I spent years searching for answers, understanding, and a way forward. Along that journey, I discovered that much of what individuals needed to recognise, understand, and respond to abuse simply wasn't being discussed in a way that felt accessible, practical, or relatable.

Since 2011, I have worked across community, professional, and organisational settings, supporting men, women, and young people affected by abuse, trauma, addiction, homelessness, exploitation, care experience, offending behaviour, and other forms of vulnerability.

Through years of delivery, listening, evaluation, and piloting programmes, one thing became clear: people needed education that helped them make sense of what they had experienced, recognise harmful patterns, understand behaviour, and create safer outcomes for themselves and others.

Everything I teach today has been shaped not only by lived experience, but by the voices of the thousands of individuals who trusted me with their stories and helped show what meaningful abuse education should look like.

Irene Education was founded in memory of my mother, Irene Harris, who lost her life to domestic homicide in 1983. Her story remains at the heart of this work and continues to inspire a commitment to education that informs, empowers, and creates lasting change.

Today, that work continues through online learning, specialist workshops, facilitator development, and professional training designed to help others recognise abuse, respond to trauma, identify harmful behaviours, and create safer outcomes.
